I think in this case they just fished around for a villian from that era that had a sinister history they could play upon and Crowley fits that bill as he has been researched by so many morons today for his writings, while Moriarty is far more veiled in his evil deeds. The unknown of the depths of Moriarty's empire makes him far more sinister; but for far too many it would take too much reading to uncover the very little that ACD chose to reveal to us. It is my hope that the blogger "Sean Wright" is the co-author of "Enter the Lion" one of my all-time favorites of the brothers Holmes.

Several months ago there was a big spread in the N...

Several months ago there was a big spread in the NY Times about the Downey Sherlock film. Lionel Wigram's wife was going on about this new portrayal of Sherlock. She was breathlessly quoted by the Gotham movie scribette (who let everyone know she was more interested in the prospect of seeing Downey's cinematic abs again). Mrs Producer went on about how Sherlock was going to be portrayed as a gambler and lady's man, "just like in the original stories."

Somehow she got Holmes mixed up with Watson!

The Brad Pitt/Moriarty angle surfaced in August among the movie blogs, no mention made that the film was in trouble. But it did seem like a "jump the shark" moment to lug in Moriarty after the villain named "Blackwood" had already had a poster made up calling him "depraved adversary"

Perhaps the Aleister Crowley angle isn't washing with the test audiences.

Better get your "Blackwood" posters quick before they disappear! He looks too Moriartian to remain in the film in any large way.

Sean Wright
